Dr Ashleigh Morrice-West, BSc, DVM, PhD

Research Fellow

Ashleigh works as an equine clinician and research fellow in the Equine Limb Injury Prevention Program. After completing her veterinary degree, Ashleigh undertook a PhD at the University of Melbourne was conferred in November 2020, investigating training and racing workloads in Thoroughbred racehorses and their relationship to performance and bone fatigue. She then began a research fellowship in the Equine Orthopaedic Research Group. Ashleigh’s current research interests include prediction of racehorse injuries through analysis of stride characteristics and workloads of horses in training and racing. Since the opening of the Equine Lameness and Imaging Centre in July 2021, she has been extensively involved in the case management of racehorse and performance horses in the clinic. She has a keen interest in diagnosis and management of stress induced musculoskeletal injuries in racehorses.

Ashleigh’s office companion is a Bernese Mountain Dog, and has a 24-year-old ex-racehorse, Silver Birch, who is the perfect example of how loved Thoroughbreds can be beyond their racing careers.
