Niya (Kyung-eun) Lee

Niya (Kyung-eun) Lee is a PhD student from South Korea. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Yonsei University and a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Life and Environmental Sciences from the University of Sydney. She also obtained a Master’s degree in Veterinary Science from Seoul National University.

During her master’s degree in Korea, she participated in some projects of the Korea Racing Authority regarding horse welfare and promoting horse industry strategies. In early 2023, she interned at Kentucky Equine Research in the United States for four months to experience the bigger horse industry and gain practical horse management skills. She wanted to keep working on horse welfare, so she started a PhD degree at the Equine research team at the University of Melbourne in September 2024. She aims to contribute to horse welfare by researching musculoskeletal injury, which is one of the most common and fatal injuries in race horses.
